The G20 was founded in 1999 in response to several world economic crises.Since 2008, it has convened at least once a year, with summits involving each member’s head of government or state, finance minister, or foreign minister, and other high-ranking officials; the EU is represented by the European Commission and the European Central Bank.Other countries, international organizations, and nongovernmental organizations are invited to attend the summits, some on a permanent basis.

The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. The members of the G20 are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Each year, the presidency invites guest countries to participate. Spain is invited as a permanent guest.
The G20 brings together the world’s major economies. Its members account for more than 80 per cent of world GDP, 75 per cent of global trade and 60 percent of the population of the planet.
The forum has met every year since 1999, with leaders meeting for an annual G20 Leaders’ Summit since 2008
In addition to the Summit, ministerial meetings, sherpa meetings, working groups and special events are organised throughout the year.

Italy hosted the G20 Leaders’ Summit in October 2021 and leaders released the G20 Rome Leaders’ Declaration.
India will host the G20 in 2023, followed by Brazil in 2024.

Australia published a summary of its implementation of G20 actions to support world trade and investment in response to COVID-19 (August 2021), as part of a commitment by G20 members to increase transparency and accountability.
At its 2009 summit, the G20 declared itself the primary venue for international economic and financial cooperation.[9] The group’s stature has risen during the subsequent decade, and it is recognised by analysts as exercising considerable global influence;it is also criticised for its limited membership,lack of enforcement powers, and for the alleged undermining of existing international institutions.Summits are often met with protests, particularly by anti-globalisation groups.
